Qikiqtarjuaq Dog Fund

One major goal of Save Rez Dogs is to empower others to take action in their own communities to be champions for rez dogs. We are so thrilled to have our friend start her own initiative in Qikiqtarjuaq, Nunavut!
Malaya Bishop launched a website to bring aid to Arctic rez dogs, because in Qikiqtarjuaq, there are no veterinarian services for dogs which means people are often facing difficult decisions to help their dog. They live in a fly-in community which means ground transportation does not exist and the nearest service center is 2 flights (8 hours in the air) away in Ottawa, Ontario.

Please check out her site and help in any way you can, whether donating or sharing the information!
Take a lesson from Malaya and start taking action in your community now!

Meet Malaya

"Malaya Bishop, is bi-racial Inuk/Qallunaq originally from Iqaluit, Nunavut with roots in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Malaya attended Seneca College in Toronto, ON for Corporate Media Studies and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Sociology with a certificate in Community Engagement and Service-Learning at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB.
Malaya has always had dogs as pets and is known as the dog person in Qikiqtarjuaq. “I am pleased when people come to me with concerns about their dog, that they know I keep the dog’s best interest in mind while understanding what the owner is feeling at the same time”.
Qikiqtarjuaq is a remote Arctic community with several factors and history that affect the longevity of dogs lives. Malaya and community members of Qikiqtarjuaq are working towards creating a safer environment for dogs. The biggest barrier the community faces is no veterinarian services available which disservices the female dog population the most. The
community would like routine care for their animals that is cost effective and safe."
