What’s Your Plan? - COVID 19
A month into the pandemic, and while adjusting to our new normal with all of us indoors, it’s very important for us to remember that our four-legged relatives need to be taken care of.
We don’t want to come out of COVID-19 with twice as many dogs as we had before, and pose an actual danger towards our communities. It’s time for us to form plans for all of the indoor, outdoor, free roaming, and stray dogs in our communities without shooting them.
#WhatsYourPlan
I encourage pet owners and communities to take a pledge towards their plan. It’s important that we have a sense of responsibility here.
If you have a free roaming dog, are they fixed?
How will you get them fixed?
If you can’t fix your dog, can you find sponsorship?
Will you have a leash and/or fenced yard for your four legged companion until they can get fixed?
Is your dog getting their basic needs met? (Food, shelter, water, exercise, love)
How will you rehome a litter of puppies?
For example, for our most vulnerable community members; if you see a stray female dog in heat, are you able to help or know someone who can help her so she doesn’t become pregnant? An unspayed female dog can have at least 2-3 litters a year, adding to a spike in our pet population.
I know it seems like a lot, but we have it in us to take preventative measures against a world after COVID-19. According to the World Health Organisation as of today, there is no evidence that pets can spread the virus to people, so now we have more of a reason to keep paying attention to our dogs needs.
When you purchase our Save Rez Dogs merch, portion of sales will continue to help Indigenous low income individuals/families with unexpected vet bills, food, and sharing posts to rehome puppies.
hiy hiy everyone and stay safe!
